Knee Pain

Can’t seem to shake that annoying knee pain. Chiropractic back pain treatment might be for you.

Common Causes of Knee Pain We See at KAW Chiropractic

Knee pain is a frequent concern that can affect people of all ages — from active individuals to those simply going about daily life. Sometimes it starts with a specific injury, while other times it develops gradually from repetitive strain or poor movement patterns. At KAW Chiropractic, we help patients across Ballarat, Alfredton, and surrounding areas understand and manage the underlying causes of their knee pain, including:

  • Patellofemoral Pain (Kneecap Pain) – This occurs when the kneecap doesn’t track smoothly over the joint, often due to muscle imbalance, poor biomechanics, or overuse. It can cause aching or sharp pain at the front of the knee, especially when climbing stairs, squatting, or sitting for long periods.

  • Meniscus Injuries – The meniscus is a cartilage pad that cushions your knee joint. Twisting, pivoting, or impact injuries can cause tears that lead to swelling, stiffness, and pain when moving or bearing weight.

  • Ligament Strains and Sprains – The ligaments in your knee help keep it stable. Sudden twisting movements or trauma can overstretch or tear these ligaments, leading to instability and pain during movement.

  • Arthritic or Degenerative Changes – Wear and tear over time can break down the protective cartilage within the knee joint, causing stiffness, swelling, and discomfort — especially after activity or long periods of sitting or standing.

  • Referred Pain from the Hips or Lower Back – Sometimes knee pain isn’t caused by the knee itself. Misalignment or tension in the hips, pelvis, or lower spine can change the way your body moves and place extra pressure on the knee joint.

  • Postural or Gait Imbalances – Poor posture, weak glutes, or flat feet can affect the way you walk, increasing stress on the knees and surrounding muscles over time.

Knee pain can be frustrating and limiting — but it’s often a sign that something deeper in your movement pattern needs attention. At KAW Chiropractic, our team focuses on finding the true cause of your discomfort, improving joint alignment and stability, and helping you move freely and confidently again.

Knee pain can make even simple movements — walking, climbing stairs, or getting up from a chair — feel difficult. At KAW Chiropractic, we help people across Ballarat, Alfredton, and nearby areas manage and recover from knee pain using gentle, evidence-based chiropractic care designed to restore balance, mobility, and strength.

Knee pain can arise from many causes, including joint misalignment, muscle imbalance, ligament strain, overuse injuries, or poor biomechanics in the hips, pelvis, or feet. Our chiropractors take a full-body approach, assessing how your spine, posture, and lower limb mechanics work together to identify the true source of your discomfort.

Our goal is to help you:

  • Reduce inflammation and joint stiffness

  • Improve movement, stability, and alignment

  • Support natural healing and prevent re-injury

At KAW Chiropractic, we don’t just focus on relieving pain — we aim to restore healthy movement and help you get back to doing the things you love without limitation.

Hey guys, Dr Steven here from KAW Chiropractic, knee pain is something a lot of people experience at some point, particularly these days, there's a lot of people start to live more sedentary lifestyles or do things where they can just have trauma to their knees. Now, it's really important when you're dealing with knee pain that you actually get to what's causing knee pain. It's really easy to take Panadol and neurofin and just cover up the symptoms, numb it while you get through your day, but it's not the best long term solution. Now, the reason that your spine can play a really big role in knee pain is your femurs and your legs and your knees, they function off your pelvis here. So that means if your pelvis isn't nice and aligned and it's not functioning correctly, it's restricted, it's going to influence how your extremity so how your legs and knees are going to work off that. So it's really, really common that as we start to get restricted or dysfunctional in your lower back and your pelvis, that's going to put some tension, some stress down the legs, which over time, it won't start straight away, but over time, can start to be reflected and shown as knee pain. So it's really important that if this is the case. We need to get to the bottom of that dysfunction up in the pelvis, set a good anchor for the legs to work off, and that's going to take so much stress off your knees and just get it feeling better and give it the chance to actually heal in the long term. You.

  • The Chiropractor service we recommend will be based on an initial assessment of your issues. We design all treatment plans specifically for individual conditions to ensure the fastest recovery times.

  • Every case is different regarding back pain, so our treatments always begin with a whole-body assessment. Our expert team will discover the areas of your body that are causing you pain and put together a personalised treatment plan that targets these areas.

  • Drinking water helps to maintain elasticity in your muscles. Chiropractic treatment involves adjusting your muscles to support your spine and other problem areas of your body. If you don't drink enough water, your muscles may revert to their original position, which can lengthen your recovery time.

  • Your injury or complaint determines your treatment plan and the frequency of your visits to our Ballarat Chiropractors or Osteopaths. After your initial assessment, we will outline a treatment plan specific to you, which will tell you how many times a week you will need to visit.

  • Chiropractors and Osteopaths understand the bones and muscles related to your posture and where issues can arise. Through individual assessments, our team will locate the source of pain or injury and create a treatment plan based on the evidence that your body provides.

  • Not all Chiropractic or Osteopathic treatment is about cracking. Different injuries require different methods of treatment. If you are concerned about cracking as part of your treatment plan, we encourage you to speak to one of our Chiropractors or Osteopaths in Ballarat about these during your initial assessment.

  • Chiropractic treatment requires you to rest your body in a comfortable and suitable position directly after a session. You should drink plenty of water to help your body adjust to the changes that have been made and pay close attention to your posture.
